Congratulations to Junior student Kim Pham whose design was chosen as the United States winner in the International Fur Remix Competition, sponsored by the International Fur Trade Federation. The Fur Information Council of America had chosen her as one of the three winners in US and she was paired with the Dennis Basso design team to help manufacture her design. Kim had a very limited amount of time to drape and pattern her design, and to sew a sample muslin to send to New York for production. Kim designed an oversized bell shape coat with asymmetrical piecing, accompanied by a fox scarf and matching handbag that Kim had made on her own. The coat was made with blue iris mink, silver pearl fox, and leather piecing, which were generously provided by Mr. Steve Gold of the North American Fur Auction.

After the photos were submitted to Milan for the international judging (photography by Sterling Steves), Kim's coat was chosen as the top design of US and was asked to send her coat to Milan for the next phase of judging. Her fur design will be featured in the Remix MiFur International Fur and Leather Exhibition during Milan Fashion Week in March 2012. She will be representing US among 21 other countries in the competition. Judging is currently taking place in Milan to select the top 8 designers in the world who will fly to Milan to compete for the top three awards.
Congratulations Kim! The Fashion Design Program is very proud of your accomplishments and we wish you the best in the competition!
