Graduate Student Hina Sandhu received an Award for the Marketable Textile Design

In the International Textile and Apparel Association annual conference in Hawaii on November 16, 2012, Hina Sandhu received the ATEXINC (Apparel & Textile Education Xchange) Award for "Excellence in Marketable Textile Design - Graduate Student Level".  The dress titled "Globally Acculturated Identity Dress" was created under the mentoring of Associate Professor Marian O'Rourke-Kaplan. The design celebrates the fusion and acculturation of separate cultures into a cohesive globally accepted, yet unique dress form.  Drawing references from Phulkari Emroidery of Punjab (India) and utilizing rich Indian brocade and Italian silk as the main fabrics, the dress blends its influences to cater to the tastes of a culturally global modern consumer.
Congratulations Hina for the great honor!
